Privacy Policy — Tell Me Human

Summary

Tell Me Human analyzes text you explicitly provide to it: it estimates the likelihood a piece of text was generated by an AI and can optionally produce a “Humanize” rewrite. By default, all processing is performed locally in your browser. If you choose to configure and use an external provider (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini) and request an analysis, the selected or pasted text will be sent to that provider only after your explicit action. We do not collect or store analyzed text on developer servers.

1. What data we collect

  • Text you select or paste: We process only the text you explicitly select on a webpage or paste into the extension’s UI and only when you request analysis.

  • Active tab metadata (optional): We may read the active tab’s title and URL only to open the side panel in the correct tab or to show context if you request it. This metadata is not sent to our servers by default.

  • API key (optional): If you choose to use an external provider, you may optionally store your API key in your browser (for example chrome.storage.local or chrome.storage.sync if you opt into sync). Storing the key is optional and under your control.

  • Incidental personal data: The text you send may contain personal information (names, email addresses, etc.) if you include it; we process whatever text you submit but we do not search for or harvest personal data automatically.

2. How we use data

  • Local processing (default): By default, all analysis runs locally in your browser and is ephemeral (in-memory). Results are displayed to you in the extension UI and are not persisted to developer servers.

  • External provider usage (opt-in and on-demand): If you configure and enable an external provider (e.g., OpenAI or Google Gemini) and request an analysis, the selected/pasted text will be transmitted to that provider to obtain the AI-likelihood score, explanations, or a Humanize rewrite. This transmission occurs only after you confirm the action.

  • API keys: If you save an API key in the extension, that key is used to authenticate calls to the provider you configured. You may delete the saved key at any time via the extension settings.

3. Data sharing

  • Provider that you configure: If you opt into an external provider, we send your selected/pasted text directly to that provider. The text then becomes subject to the provider’s privacy and retention policies. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of the provider you choose.

  • No other third-party sharing: We do not share user-provided text or metadata with third parties other than the external provider you explicitly configure. We do not operate server-side components that store or process analyzed text by default.

4. Retention and deletion

  • Analyzed text: We do not retain user text on our servers. If you use an external provider, retention policies for that text are governed by the provider.

  • Stored API keys and preferences: API keys and preferences are saved in the browser only if you choose to save them. You can delete any saved key or reset all settings from the extension UI:

    1. Click the extension icon → Settings.

    2. Choose Delete API key or Reset settings.

  • Support for deletion requests: If you need help removing data or have questions, contact: felipe.farias@hakalab.com.

5. Security

  • Calls to external providers are made over HTTPS/TLS.

  • We recommend storing API keys in chrome.storage.local as the default option. If you enable chrome.storage.sync, your key may sync to your Google account—this is opt-in and will be made clear in the UI.

  • We do not log or expose saved keys or sent text to any other services by default.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Control external transmissions: You can choose not to configure an external provider; in that case, nothing is sent outside your browser.

  • Delete keys & reset: You can delete stored API keys and reset extension settings at any time via the extension UI.

  • Data subject rights: If your jurisdiction grants rights (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection), contact felipe.farias@hakalab.com and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

7. Children

This extension is not intended for children. If you are a parent or guardian and learn a child provided personal data without your consent, contact felipe.farias@hakalab.com and we will assist with deletion as required by law.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We will publish the “Last updated” date at the top. If we make material changes affecting how we treat personal data, we will highlight those changes on the extension listing or by the contact channels provided.
